Sometimes poetry can be downright chilling, and serve as a call to awareness and growth. It can be a stark form of truth-telling which inspires others to speak their truth as well. I think this is an example: First They Came for the Jews By Martin Neimuller First they came for the Jews And I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew.  Then they came for the communists And I did not speak out— Because I was not communist. Then they came for the trade unionists And I did not speak out— Because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for me— And there was no one left To speak out for me.
